Yakubu Gowon, born on October 19, 1934, was Nigeria’s head of state from 1966 to 1975. He led during the Nigerian Civil War, focusing on national reconciliation post-conflict with the “Three Rs” policy. Overthrown in a 1975 coup, he went into exile.
